WHISPERING PINE ~ DAY CAMP 2008-~JULY 14-18, 2008~-~ESTONIA SCOUT CAMP, JACKSON-This year we are pleased to announce the Whispering Pine District Day Camp~ “Olympic Games” will take place July 14-18, 2008 at the Estonia Scout Camp in Jackson!  This year we are pleased to announce that Vinny Rubio, with the assistance of Dena Kaiser, will be our Day Camp Program Director.  Both Vinny and Dena are very active Volunteers in Pack 104 in Jackson!

This year we will be again having emergency services day where the Scouts will get to see demonstrations by such groups as the National Guard, Jackson Police Department, Jackson First Aid Squad, Northern Ocean County S.W.A.T. Team, and many more really cool groups!

Every Cub Scout should have the opportunity to attend Day Camp, as it is the pinnacle of the Cub Scouting Year!  Please note that this year’s Early Bird Discount date will be June 1, 2008.   If you are interested in having a day camp presentation at your next Pack meeting please email Chris Street at cstreet@jerseyshore-bsa.org!  

DAY CAMP STAFF NEEDED-This year we are looking to assemble our Day Camp Staff early, this way we can provide the best program possible for the Scouts attending our Camp.  We are looking for people to work in a variety of different positions including: Program Staff (Aquatics, Nature, Shooting Sports, Games/Athletics, Commissioners, Webelos Cooking, Outdoor Skills, Tot Lots, and Crafts), Den Walkers, as well as Youth Staff (Den Chiefs ages 14 and up).

If you are interested in volunteering for the week please feel free to contact Chris Street at 732-349-1037 ext 22, or cstreet@jerseyshore-bsa.org.  Any parent who volunteers for the entire week receives a free Day Camp T-Shirt as well as a 50% refund of their child’s registration fee. 

2008 D.E.P. CAMPOREE AT ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK- Attention all Jersey Shore Scouting Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venture Crews-You are invited to attend the first 2008 D.E.P. Jersey Shore Council Camporee at Island Beach State Park.  

Attached you will find a registration form for the 2008 D.E.P. Camporee, if you have any questions please contact your local Jersey Shore Scouting Service Center.  Please make plans to attend the 2008 Jersey Shore Council Program Launch and Scout Expo on May 15 at Citta, there will be two half hour information sessions for the 2008 D.E.P. Camporee, one for Cub Scout Packs at 7:30PM and one for Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews at 8:00PM.  There will also be a table with plenty of information!   Attached is a copy of the DEP Camporee Registration form.

2008 CENTENNIAL QUALITY UNIT FORMS DUE- You should have already gone over your 2008 Centennial Quality Unit forms with your Unit Commissioner and submitted them.  If you have not done this please contact your Commissioner, or District Commissioner Bob Krehely, bobkrehely@comcast.net, TODAY!  You cannot qualify for the 2008 Award if you do not submit a commitment form!

 

2007 CENTENNIAL QUALITY UNIT RIBBON PRESENTATIONS- We will be presenting the 2007 Centennial Quality Unit Awards at this Month’s Roundtable Meeting so please make every effort to attend to receive your unit’s recognition.  If you missed the roundtable the ribbon will be in your Unit folder the day after the roundtable.

REMEMBER TO ATTEND ROUNDTABLES- Roundtables are an important part of developing a great unit program!  They are something each unit should be sending several representatives too; it is a time for your leaders to learn from other leaders throughout the district.  Roundtables are there for leaders to share ideas and build better Packs and Troops!  Boy Scout Roundtables take place the second Monday of every month September-June, while Cub Roundtables take place the second Tuesday of the month from September through June.   

            

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!-We are looking for new members for our district committee and commissioner staff.  Are you interested in helping out Scouting in a new way?  Do you want to share your experience, ideas, or leadership?  If so then we’d love to hear from you. 

Commissioners help provide a friendly ear, experience and advise to unit leaders- being a liaison between the district committee and the units.

District Committee Members help decide the direction of the district and work on various committees to provide service to our Scouting Units.

WELCOME TO THE THIRD ANNUAL WHISPERING PINE SCOUT OLYMPICS- The Whispering Pine Scout Olympics will be held over the weekend of April 25-29, 2008 at the Joseph A Citta Scout Reservation.  Scouts of all ages from Tigers through Boy Scouts to Venturers are invited to participate.  For these Olympic Games Scouts will not compete as Dens, Patrols, Packs, Troops, or Crews but as Teams of Scouts from Tigers right up through Venturers.  The teams will be selected and formed by the Olympic Committee Prior to the event, so Pre-registration is a MUST!  All Units must have their official OLYMPIC ROSTERS and REGISTRATION forms in to the Jersey Shore Scouting Service Center by FRIDAY APRIL 18, 2008 to be eligible to compete!  The cost for the event is $15 per unit and $6 per person (both Scouts & Leaders).

JERSEY SHORE COUNCIL PINEWOOD DERBY- The 2008 Jersey Shore Council Pinewood Derby will take place June 8th at the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township.  Details will be sent to the District Qualifiers.  If you have any questions please contact Dave Gingras at 609-272-6820, or dgingras@jerseyshore-bsa.org.

CUB SCOUT SIX FLAGS DAY- Attention all Cub Scout Packs!!!  On April 26, 2008, we are hosting a special Cub Scout Family Day at Six Flags Great Adventure.  For $48.50 you will receive a Two Park Admission Ticket, a Buffet Lunch and a Return Ticket (received at the lunch).  This is a great opportunity, not just for Cub Scouts but for any Scouting family.  For more information contact Teri Wieckhorst at twieckhorst@jerseyshore-bsa.org.  A flier is attched.

2008 JERSEY SHORE SCOUTING PROGRAM LAUNCH & SCOUT EXPO- May 15, 2008 at Citta Scout Reservation will be the annual Program Launch and Scout Expo!  This event is open to all Volunteers and Scouting parents, we encourage every unit to bring as many adults as possible to this event!  Find out what activities will be going on in, and around, the Jersey Shore Council in 2008-2009 and beyond!  The trade show will run from 6:30-8:30PM and there will be six separate breakout classes we encourage you to take advantage of.  Also every unit that attends will receive a 2008-2009 Jersey Shore Program Packet filled with lots of great info! A flier is attached for registration purposes!

CUB SCOUT OUTDOOR TRAININGS COMMING THIS SPRING- Mark your calendar now for BALOO & OWL training this spring.  BALOO, the outdoor training needed to take your Pack camping will take place Saturday April 12, 2008 at the Joseph A Citta Scout Reservation.  OWL weekend, the training needed by Webelos Leaders to take their den camping will be offered April 25-27, 2008 at Citta Scout Reservation.  If you are going to be a Webelos Leader next Fall now is the time to take OWL- get a head start on your year!  Sign Up forms are available at www.jerseyshore-bsa.org.
